The Attic by HansNomad The Attic by HansNomad
As a child I never liked attics. I always thought ancient things lived up there with the rest of the forgotten boxes and old toys--that there was something else up there that someone forgot. Something wearing old jewelry that it found in a chest and clothes that it found in an old box.

The fear that something up there was waiting to play was the subject of the piece.

Yes, the attic. A great painting that really lives up to the classic image, while taking a sizzling step in its own direction. The figure is a perfect representation of the old and ancient, and combined with the pose really gives off a mystic, eerie feel. The colours and lighting wrap it all up; it's almost if I'm walking into an undiscovered RPG dungeon.

Thank you. I took a look at your work--nice to see traditional art for a change (this sounds odd coming from someone who does digital), but when I was younger all I used was canvas and oils. I still miss the smell, but not the mess.

Thanks! I really have respect for those who are able to handle digital media, I think it's just as challenging as traditional media. But you are right, the best part is just turning off the computer when you are finished instead of rinsing all of those brushes out!

Thanks. I had recently watched a video of how Drew Struzan does his movie posters (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc.) and tried to use the last step of his process (he goes over everything with colored pencils). It gives things a slightly heightened level of detail.

I never knew that! Well it worked. You can see a bit of the texture and it's just... really mind-blowing. :)

Thanks. I really like your entry "Under the Crib." Great perspective choice and the detail on the ball--nice touch. Good luck to you too.
